FALMOUTH DIVING CLUB Incorporating FALMOUTH HISTORICAL DIVERS
Recent Exhibitions

Falmouth Historical Divers are a group of people in
the West Country (of England) who have assembled a number of working sets
of Standard diving gear. Currently we have Draeger, Siebe Gorman, Heinke,
Desco, and Morse equipment as well as a number of shallow water rigs and
fibre helmets and even a couple of home made helmets. Air is pumped to the
diver using a traditional hand pump (see the section on hand pumps)
through a hose and wherever possible we communicate with the diver through
a traditional radio telephone powered by a battery. See our new feature on
underwater telephones in the Historical section.
Audience participation - whenever the circumstances allow we invite members of the audience to help with the pumping of the air, under strict supervision of course as too much air can have potentially dangerous consequences with the diver being 'blown' up to the surface at too rapid a rate. Members of the audience also have the opportunity to speak to the diver whilst he is underwater - one of the miracles of modern science.
The members of Falmouth Historical Divers would welcome members of other Working Equipment Groups to visit us with their equipment for a Rally or exhibition. In August 2006 we are hoping to stage a Grand Rally with as many Historic and Vintage exhibits as we can muster.
Exhibits range from Diving helmets, boots and knives, Pumps and underwater tools to twin hose SCUBA gear, torches and telecommunications equipment as well recovered items from under the sea.
Goals The main goal is to have fun using historical diving equipment in a safe way. Besides this members preserve diving equipment for future generations and pass their enthusiasm on to the general public, by performing demonstrations and attending diving exhibitions. Often in the audience there are divers who worked the gear many years ago and we are especially delighted to speak to them and sometimes even learn tips or advice from the old days.
How can I join? Joining the Falmouth Historical Divers is quite simple. email info@divingheritage.com and we can tell you when our next demonstration will be held. If you have your own equipment we will perform a safety check on the gear and even if you have only one piece of equipment we can usually incorporate it with the stock of equipment we hold to make up a full set to dive. Membership is free.

Safety
Is very important. As you can imagine, you run extra risks using "old" equipment. Every owner is personally responsible for the maintenance of the equipment. At a diving rally, the owner of the equipment always makes the first dive. This will help convince the other people that it is safe.... Prior to every diving activity, there is a briefing, in which the owner explains how to operate his gear. Especially for new members this is important.
Number of participants
For each dive, there are at least 5 Falmouth Historical Divers members present:
