The German Navy used (and still uses) Dräger helmets. These hats all have a white synthetic lacker inside and out. The reasons for this ? 

• Easy maintenance;
• A good chance to see the diver underwater;
• A good protection against the sea salt;
• Most of all: to prevent the helmet and the diver from a short circuit that could occur during underwater welding jobs (holes burning into the helmet).
