The helmetdiver Martin Lund, employee of the Coast Wrecking Company, descended to a depth of 30 feet to inspect the hull of the steamer "Pamona" which sunk some time ago in the area Fort-Ross. While Martin Lund examined the hull of this sinister wreck, he felt the powerfull tentacles of a monstrous octopus that grabbed him.
Instantly, he warned his comrades at the surface who supplied him with fresh air. Despite his call, the poor diver wasn’t raised to the surface so he was forced to defend himself. Luckily, he could use his arms. In a desperate struggle he grabbed his diving knife and stabbed the sustaining octopus. After a fight which lasted more than one hour, and while he stabbed the octopus several times, he succeeded to undo himself from this slimy monster. The octopus finally let go of his catch.

De helmduiker Martin Lund, werkzaam bij de Coast Wrecking Company, was afgedaald naar een diepte van 10 meter, om daar de scheepsromp van het wrak "Pamona" die al enige tijd geleden was gezonken in de streek van Fort-Ross, te inspecteren. Terwijl Martin Lund de buitenzijde van het onheilspellende wrak onderzocht, voelde hij dat hij krachtig werd vastgegrepen door de tentakels van een monsterlijke octopus. Onmiddellijk verwittigde hij de kameraden die aan de oppervlakte de duiker van verse lucht voorzagen. Ondanks de oproep werd de arme helmduiker niet naar de oppervlakte gehaald waardoor hij zich moest verdedigen. Gelukkig had hij zijn armen vrij. In een wanhopige strijd pakte hij zijn duikmes en stak hij het hardnekkig volhoudende monster. Na een gevecht van meer dan een uur, waarbij hij het monster verschillende keren stak, slaagde hij erin zichzelf los te maken van het slijmerige monster. Deze moest uiteindelijk zijn vangst laten gaan.
