Video clip caption and additional information
The traditional red woollen hat is worn by the diver for 2 main reasons . Firstly to keep the divers head warm under water and secondly to make the diver visible to the dock crane operators because whilst wearing the heavy gear the diver man not be able to move out of the way of suspended loads. Notice also the diver is wearing a nose clip. This is secured around the diver’s neck and used to assist the diver in equalising the pressure whist descending. Once the diver is on the bottom he can knock it off his nose and it will remain around his neck.

Thanks to Pete Davies for supplying this film taken in 2007 at Falmouth, UK.
